Why are people going crazy over the Ipad?
I dont get it, its just an iphone on steroids. If you have an iphone or ipod touch, then you know how an ipad is.

LikeDislikeI don’t get it either. I would love it if it had flash, but it doesn’t, so I guess it’s just a giant, uncomfortable to carry around version of an iTouch, or a large iPhone minus the phone.

LikeDislikeBecause it’s the newest thing from Apple, and all the Appleheads want it to go along with their iMac’s, iPod’s, Airport Extremes, Final Cut Pros ect ect. Although I have to say I am one of these Appleheads, I still don’t want the iPad. It is an iPhone on Steroids

LikeDislikeI totally agree! I saw something either on SNL or the Daily Show that made fun of the ipad in the same way you are. I guess some people just buy new things no matter what, which I will never understand.

LikeDislikeyeah I totally agree. The iPad is simply a bigger version of the ipod touch or the iphone without the phone. It can’t do a lot of things a regular laptop can do and oh dear it does not have flash. That’s terrible. I love apple but I won’t buy it if I already have ipod touch or iphone.

LikeDislikeNot exactly. The thing is, most tech-savvy folk like us already know some of its hardware and software limitations.
However, this MOBILE device is targeted at NORMAL computer users, those that do lightweight tasks like surfing the web, checking mail, watching videos or listening to music. The device is showing an entirely different way to interact with the computer, simplifying its interaction and masking the effect of a “file and folder” system that many normal computer users loathe to great extent, and troubleshooting is something that has been experienced on Windows a lot, something people don’t want to bother with.
I see this device being used in schools, and by somewhat computer-illiterate people. This device is all about consuming media. And for a device that uses a little over 2 watts of power, this is going to be a great energy saver in the house and on the go.
As for hardware that people want…
*Camera : I don’t see myself holding up a tablet at eye level taking pictures. That would feel silly.
*Skype/VoIP video calls: Like our networks can handle any of that easily. Japan wins there.
*SD Card/USB/etc: People forget that this is meant to be a lightweight, mobile device. If you always need to do heavy-duty work, get out of the netbook class, or look for something other than an iPad.
I am waiting for mine. About 90% of the things I do on my clunky 5 year old laptop I could do with the iPad. This device will have a different use for everybody. I don’t see myself using Photoshop or similar programs on the go, and there are apps that can help with it if you absolutely must. If I need something special, I can find an app to add functionality (printing storage, iWork/Office documents etc.), and I’m sure those normal computer users would be able do it just as easily.
It is the interaction and experience of this device that will make people want this. I know those 400,000 day-one sales are not all from Apple fans. They want to use a computer that is simple and easy to understand. Arguments are invalid unless you’ve experienced one in hand.
