   The ipad is essentially just an over sized ipod. Whatever the ipod touch can do the ipad can do. Its just that the ipad is larger. It does not have OSX it simply runs the ipod operating system. This also means the ipad does not support flash, multiple windows/programs at once or java.

   A better alternative is the HP Slate. It is about the same size however runs Windows 7. So anything you can do on a laptop you can do on the Slate. Unlike the ipad where it is limited to single tasking and the simple features of an ipod.

   I suggest if you want a tablet wait around 4 months for the HP Slate. However the ipad and Slate will not be as fast as a laptop. It really depends on what you want to use it for I guess. If you want a tablet the Slate can do far more. However if you want to play games or have something really fast stick with a laptop.

I am pretty sure that the iPad has no more than 80g harddrive, and 1g of ram. It cant load flash websies, which means you can only watch shows/movies that you buy at the itunes store. You cannot download any browsers like firefox. It is far less advanced then a netbook. It is one apple invention that will fail.
