iPad FAQ » I have recently heard about the Apple Ipad and i was interested in it because of how it has the keyboard, but i know its like the Ipod touch, but bigger. I thought about getting one, but could it do google docs if i wanted to use it for school related stuff?
Do you guys think i should get an Ipad or should i just stick with a laptop?

i wouldn’t if you use it for more than games and entertainment. that’s only my personal opinion. it’d be hard to do much school work on.

LikeDislikeWeb verison of google apps will not work on the iPad, you must have use the app.for google docs from the app store. There is also an iWork verison for the iPad.
Also the iPad does NOT have the ability to print to any printer.
Personally I think you should stick with the laptop, writing on the iPad’s touch screen is difficult and the lack of printing capability will cause problems.

LikeDislikeThe iPad would work well for school. You can get iLife that includes a word processing application. I think it might be hard to write a paper with it but you can also buy keyboard real keyboard.
You will still need another computer to sync the iPad with iTunes. If your parents have a computer you might be able to get by with syncing it with there computer when you are home.

LikeDislikeHi my name is Marko and I love technology and my dog Loki.
An iPad is not a laptop replacement, it is only for entertainment purposes. Even if you used it as a standalone computer, you would still need another computer to sync it to in order to do anything with your notes or presentations. Also, consider that nearly 50% of the people that bought an iPad on launch day have already returned it, implying that it isn’t the product Apple wants you to think it is. If you want a cheap, compact, functional laptop for school, consider a netbook such as this one:
For under $300 you actually get something that is far more powerful than an iPad, while having other nice features such as 11 hours of battery life and a fully-functioning OS.

LikeDislikeAnswers are not only misleading here but are totally wrong.
iPad does support Google Doc , you can create word doc,,spreadsheet and Keynote presentation and upload to Google Doc. And its easier to create document using iWork on iPad.
For school and business , there are many apps.
I am a professional , and I use iPad everyday for my work right from creating doc to download big files and joining meeting remotely.
You can save any files directly from email attachment to various apps and then upload to wherever you wan. I can download any kind of files including video files from Internet and browse the web at the same times. It can be connected to projector to show presentation to a large audience.
You can customize the alerts sound and it gives you notification about every task even if it’s in sleep mode. There are many free books are available in iBook store many of them are excellent reference and history books.
There are many apps are available in app store that helps in chemistry, maths and other subjects.
All the big corporate houses have released apps for iPad , and here these answerers are saying it’s not for business so do you think companies like Citrix,SAP, Oracle,WebEx, Gotomeeting and hundreds of more are entertainment companies? Use your brain little bit.
Grow up guys read some news before you answer a question. Do you think Stanford and Harvard universities developed iPad apps just for fun?
Many universities are giving iPad to every students for study purposes.Seton Hill university is the first to give iPad to students.
You can save all doc right on device or upload directly to google doc or mobile me, box.net , dropbox. Why would you need to sync with computer?
You can directly connect to projector if you want to give a presentation.
All kinds of files including video audio can be directly downloaded to iPad.

LikeDislikeSimple answer… !!NO!! 6 reasons why not to get it (if these setbacks do not bother you, then you might like it.
1. No camera, most apple items do have one, so why do they decide on latest greatest (they claim) item and remove this standard option.
2. NO multitasking, you can only run ONE application at a time, so you cannot browse the web and listen to itunes
3. (this is a biggie) “This is as close as NAZIS as it gets” All downloads for this device, purchases, upgrades, acquiring plugins are ONLY done through APPLE!!! Apple purchases are expensive, and they are forcing their client to only deal with apple!
4. Web plugins, codecs, etc are ont supported (Java, windows based items)
5. New technology which sells a product for a huge profit to learn their mistakes and come up with better 2nd generation, so WAIT!!!!!
6. It is limited and does not even come close to cheap basic operating system.
6. DONT GET IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It can stream iphone3 G S camera and can take picture but still I thinknot having camera is drawback but nothing is perfect.
2. NO multitasking, you can only run ONE application at a time, so you cannot browse the web and listen to itunes
I think you have never used iPhone ,iPod touch andofcourse iPad. You can easily browse the internet or create a document and listen to music.
Not only that, you can watch movie and at the same time you can download other movie, music,or any document.
You are not only misinformed you are totally ignorant towards new technology and new development.
Have you heard of apps.
3. (this is a biggie) “This is as close as NAZIS as it gets” All downloads for this device, purchases, upgrades, acquiring plugins are ONLY done through APPLE!!! Apple purchases are expensive, and they are forcing their client to only deal with apple!
You can download movies from many websites and those websites are not owned by Apple. For example , you can watch movies using your Netflix account .netflix is not apple company. You can watch tv shows using abc player for free or tv.com. Noneof them belong to apple.
And moreover there are thousands of Free Video podcasts and over50,000 Free apps available in App store how can you say itunes is expensive .
4. Web plugins, codecs, etc are ont supported (Java, windows based items)
Again you prove that you dont have clue about technology. iPad supports Java Sript. Itdownt support Flash but without flash you can watch movies and TV shows online without a problem because it supports HTML 5 and all the websites are recoding their video content to HTML5
You can watch free movies on websitesand tv shows on abc player. I watch Lost and V all the time on iPad.
Battery lasts over 15 hours. It starts immediately. You don’t need to shut it down so bynthe time PC boots,iPad finish the job.
iPad supports WebDAV server so you can upload files everywhere with one tap.
Gaming is great on it.
